Do you think teachers should point out mistakes in student's homework by a face-to-face conversation or by writing comments on their homework?
A teacher could point out mistakes in homework in a face-to-face conversation, but I think it is better for the teacher to write comments on homework.
One reason is that the teacher has more time to select wording in writing. Especially if the comments are critical, the teacher can better decide on phrasing that will not offend or discourage the student.
Another reason is that the student has a permanent record of his or her mistakes. It is easy to refer back to the notes at any time, such as when reviewing for a test. A student may only remember a few points when corrections are oral, whereas written corrections remain forever.
That is why I feel that teachers should write comments about mistakes on homework rather than give comments in a face-to-face conversation.
