一、平时多积累词汇。单词是英语学习的基础，所以平时学习每天都要按照三级词汇表背单词。阅读时遇到生词时，一定要查词典弄明白词义。我觉得这一点很重要，因为背单词时你不知道到底那些记住了，遇到的生词正是那些没记住的，只有这时把它弄会才能真正提高词汇量。

二、考前突击做历届真题。做真题是为了熟悉题型，了解考试知识点。所以我在考前一个月，把所有答案的真题打印下来，按照考试时间要求，一套一套地做题，然后对答案，再把卷子复习一两遍，确定每道题为什么对了，为什么错了，尤其把错题重点关照一下，直到弄明白为止。这对于大家来说是非常实用的，因为突击本来就为大家省了时间。

成人英语三级考试阅读理解解题技巧(1)

由于一篇成人英语三级考试阅读文章通常在250词左右，一个定义可能占几行，这时定义很可能作为考点。阅读时只需圈出被定义的词就行了。定义可以分为以下两种。

(一)篇章定义

与主题有关的篇章定义，理解它有助于做主旨题。

例1 Oceanography has been defined as "The application of all sciences to the study of the sea".

Before the nineteenth century, scientists with an interest in the sea were few and far between. Certainly Newton considered some theoretical aspects of it in his writ-ings, but he was reluctant(不愿意)to go to sea to further his work.

For most people the sea was remote, and with the exception of early interconti- nental travellers or others who earned a living from the sea, there was little reason to ask many questions about it, let alone to ask what lay beneath the surface. The first time that the question "What is at the bottom of the oceans?" had to be answered with any commercial consequence was when the laying of a telegraph cable from Europe to America was proposed. The engineers had to know the depth profile(起伏形状)of the route to estimate the length of cable that had to be manufactured.

It was to Maury of the US Navy that the Atlantic Telegraph Company turned, in 1853, for information on this matter. In the 1840s, Maury had been responsible for encouraging voyages during which soundings(测深)were taken to investigate the depths of the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Later, some of his findings aroused much popular interest in his book The Physical Geography of the Sea .

The cable was laid, but not until 1866 was the connection made permanent and re- liable. 例2 Statuses are marvelous human inventions that enable us to get along with one an- other and to determine wher we "fit" in society. As we go about our everyday lives, we mentally attempt to place people in terms of their statuses. For example, we must judge whether the person in the library is a reader or a librarian, whether the tele- phone caller is a friend or a salesman, whether the unfamiliar person on our property is a thief or a meter reader, and so on.

The statuses we assume often vary with the people we encounter, and change throughout life. Most of us can, at very high speed, assume the statuses that Various situations require.
